Adam Collins SEO consultant – UK SEO consultant cost and pricing guide 2026

How Much Do I Charge for SEO Consultancy?

I’m Adam Collins, an independent SEO consultant. My one-hour consultancy session costs £300 + VAT, while four 45-minute sessions cost £1,000 + VAT. I also provide retained SEO consultancy, which is scoped individually rather than sold at a standard published monthly price.

SEO consultancy option Price Consultancy time
Single session £300 + VAT 60 minutes
Four-session block £1,000 + VAT 4 × 45 minutes
Retained consultancy Scoped individually Agreed to scope

These prices cover consultancy with Adam Collins. Content production, development and other implementation resources are separate costs unless they are explicitly included in the agreed scope.

One-Hour SEO Consultancy Session

A one-hour SEO consultancy session provides 60 minutes of direct consultancy with Adam Collins for £300 + VAT.

It is a standalone consultancy engagement rather than an ongoing retainer or managed SEO service.

What Can We Cover in a £300 SEO Consultation?

A £300 + VAT SEO consultation works best when there is a defined problem, decision or second opinion to resolve. The purpose is to use the hour for diagnosis, prioritisation and decision-making rather than a generic discussion about SEO.

Typical consultancy sessions can cover:

  • diagnosing a ranking, traffic or organic visibility problem;
  • reviewing an existing SEO strategy or roadmap;
  • challenging recommendations from an agency, consultant or internal team;
  • technical SEO decisions and prioritisation;
  • site architecture, internal linking or content decisions;
  • website migration considerations;
  • competitor and search-opportunity analysis; or
  • deciding which SEO work should happen next and what can wait.

The useful output from the session is clarity around the problem, the decision and the next priority rather than another long list of SEO tasks.

Four 45-Minute SEO Consultancy Sessions

The four-session option provides four separate 45-minute consultations for £1,000 + VAT, giving three hours of consultancy in total.

The effective rate is £333.33 + VAT per consultancy hour, so this is not a discounted bundle of consulting time. Its value is continuity: you have four separate points at which we can review what has happened, assess new evidence and make the next decision.

Retained SEO Consultancy

Adam Collins also provides retained SEO consultancy where recurring strategic input is required.

Retained engagements are scoped around the level of involvement needed. There is no standard published monthly retainer price for Adam Collins consultancy.

What Are UK SEO Consultants Publicly Charging in 2026?

I reviewed publicly advertised UK SEO consultancy pricing in August 2026.

Across six external pricing pages where I could identify a comparable hourly consultancy rate, advertised prices ranged from £100 to £250 per hour.

This is an observed sample of publicly available prices. It is not an estimate of the average fee charged by every SEO consultant in the UK.

I excluded day rates, monthly SEO packages, marketplace listings, unclear-duration sessions and third-party estimates from the observed range rather than converting unlike services into artificial hourly rates.

Prices checked: August 2026.

Published UK SEO Consultancy Prices I Reviewed

Provider Provider type Published consultancy price Important qualification VAT
Graham SEO SEO consultancy £100 per hour Advertised SEO consultancy rate Excluding VAT
Unity SEO SEO consultancy/provider £100 per hour Minimum half-day booking Not stated alongside the reviewed price
Dan M. Jones Independent SEO consultant From £150 per hour SEO consultation Not stated alongside the reviewed price
SEO-Audits.io SEO consultancy £200 for one hour Single-hour consultation Not stated alongside the reviewed price
Assertive Media SEO consultancy/provider £250 for one hour Single-hour consultation Not stated alongside the reviewed price
Dmytro Spilka Independent SEO consultant From £250 per hour Hourly advisory SEO consultancy Not stated alongside the reviewed price

Methodology: I included providers where a public UK SEO consultancy or advisory price was expressed on an hourly basis. Unity SEO remains in the table because it publishes an hourly rate, but its minimum half-day booking is shown because the £100 rate cannot be treated as a freely purchasable one-hour session. Day rates, monthly packages and third-party estimates were excluded rather than converted into artificial hourly equivalents. Public prices can change after the review date.

What Does the Public Pricing Sample Tell Us?

The public prices in this sample range from £100 to £250 per advertised consultancy hour.

That range describes these reviewed offers only. It should not be presented as a UK industry average or as the complete range charged by SEO consultants.

My £300 + VAT hourly consultancy rate sits above the advertised £100–£250 range in this sample. VAT treatment was not stated consistently by the external providers, so this is a comparison of advertised headline rates rather than a fully normalised VAT-inclusive dataset.

Why Is My SEO Consultancy Priced Above This Sample?

My consultancy is positioned around direct senior strategic input rather than packaged delivery or account management.

I founded Ignite SEO in 2020 and continue to work directly as an SEO consultant, advising businesses on commercially important decisions across technical SEO, site architecture, content strategy, internal linking, organic growth and search visibility.

The relevant comparison is therefore not simply whether another provider advertises a lower hourly rate. It is whether the consultant has the experience and judgement required for the decision you need to make.

You can read more about my background, speaking, published work and industry experience on my About Adam Collins page.

Why Do SEO Consultant Rates Differ?

SEO consultant rates differ because consultants sell different levels of experience, specialist knowledge, involvement and responsibility.

Those differences matter most where the consultant is advising on decisions with a high cost of error, including website migrations, site restructuring, technical prioritisation and major changes to commercially important pages.

Headline hourly rates therefore need context before two offers can be compared meaningfully.

Do SEO Consultants Charge Less When You Buy More Hours?

Two pricing offers reviewed here publish lower effective hourly rates when larger amounts of consultancy time are purchased.

Assertive Media charges £250 for a single hour, with lower effective hourly rates for larger commitments. SEO-Audits.io also publishes lower hourly equivalents for five- and ten-hour blocks than for a single consultancy hour.

That is evidence of volume pricing from those offers, not evidence that SEO consultants universally discount larger commitments.

My four-session option works differently. The £1,000 + VAT fee buys four separate 45-minute sessions rather than cheaper hourly consultancy time.

Why Does SEO Consultancy Cost Differ From the Total Cost of SEO?

SEO consultancy fee vs total SEO cost including strategy, implementation and resources
SEO consultancy pays for strategic expertise and direction, while total SEO cost also depends on the implementation and resources required to execute the strategy.

An SEO consultancy fee pays for specialist analysis, judgement and direction. The total cost of SEO also includes the people, tools and external resources required to implement that direction.

Two businesses can therefore receive similar strategic advice while having very different total SEO costs.

Cost layer What you are paying for Examples
SEO consultancy Expertise used to diagnose problems, make decisions and direct the strategy Analysis, prioritisation, recommendations, specifications and review
Internal implementation People already inside the business who carry out the strategy Developers, writers, designers and marketing teams
External implementation Specialists required to execute work the internal team cannot cover Technical development, content production and specialist outreach
External resources Additional resources required to support implementation Software, research data and third-party production costs

What Does an SEO Consultancy Fee Actually Cover?

An SEO consultancy fee primarily pays for the expertise used to determine what should be done, why it should be done and what should happen first.

An SEO consultant might identify pages competing for the same search intent, commercially important pages buried too deeply within a site or technical problems preventing sections of the website from performing as they should.

The consultant diagnoses those problems, determines their priority and specifies the changes required.

Consultancy does not automatically include implementation. Developers, writers, designers or other specialists may still be required to execute the recommendations.

When Do You Need Consultancy Rather Than a Managed SEO Programme?

A business with capable internal implementation resources can use SEO consultancy without outsourcing the entire SEO programme.

A company may already employ developers, content specialists and a marketing team. An SEO consultant can analyse the opportunity, establish priorities and provide strategic direction while those teams implement the work.

Where the business does not have the people required to execute the strategy, additional external delivery resources are needed. That increases the total SEO budget because the business is paying for both strategic expertise and implementation.

Engagement Senior SEO direction Implementation What the headline fee primarily represents
Consultancy with an internal team External consultant Mostly internal Senior SEO expertise and oversight
Consultancy plus external specialists External consultant Mixed internal and external Consultancy plus selected delivery costs
Managed SEO programme External provider Mostly external Strategy plus broader delivery capacity

A lower-priced consultancy engagement can contain more senior strategic input than a larger managed campaign while including far less implementation.

A managed SEO programme can be the better commercial choice where the business does not have the people required to execute the strategy.

The meaningful comparison is not simply “How much does the SEO cost?” It is “What responsibility and resources does that price actually buy?”

Need senior SEO direction without outsourcing everything?

If you already have people who can implement the work, I can help diagnose the problems, set the priorities and give your team a clearer SEO strategy to execute.

Discuss Your SEO With Adam

What Affects the Cost of an SEO Consultant?

The cost of an SEO consultant is affected by the consultant’s experience, the scope and complexity of the problem and the level of involvement required.

Competition and implementation requirements can have a larger effect on the total SEO programme budget than on the consultant’s underlying hourly rate.

How Does Experience Affect SEO Consultancy Rates?

Experience affects consultancy pricing where the role requires greater judgement, specialist knowledge or responsibility.

This becomes particularly important when an SEO consultant is advising on decisions where getting the answer wrong could create substantial commercial or technical consequences.

Two consultants selling one hour of their time are therefore not necessarily selling the same level of expertise or responsibility.

How Does Project Scope Affect SEO Consultancy Cost?

A larger SEO scope requires more consultancy time when it introduces additional decisions, dependencies or areas that need to be evaluated.

A second opinion on one technical issue is narrower than strategic direction across site structure, commercially important pages, content and organic search performance.

The broader engagement may require additional analysis, stakeholder input and repeated review even where the consultant’s hourly rate remains unchanged.

How Does Website Complexity Affect the Cost?

Website complexity affects SEO consultancy cost where it increases the analysis or specialist input required to understand and solve the problem.

A website using straightforward templates may be easier to diagnose than an ecommerce, marketplace or international site containing many URLs, multiple templates and dependencies between SEO and development.

The useful question is not simply how many pages the website has, but how difficult it is to understand, change and validate safely.

How Does Competition Affect SEO Cost?

Competitive search markets can require greater overall SEO investment because the standard required to outperform the existing results is higher.

Competition does not change a consultant’s hourly rate by itself. It can change the scale of the strategy and the amount of implementation required to achieve the objective.

How Does the Required Level of Consultant Involvement Affect Cost?

The level of involvement affects total consultancy cost because one business may need a single decision while another requires recurring analysis, review and support.

A one-off consultation can be enough where the problem is clearly defined and the internal team can execute independently afterwards.

Where implementation is continuous or new decisions need to be made as evidence emerges, a retained or multi-session engagement may be more appropriate.

Should You Pay an SEO Consultant Hourly, by Project or on Retainer?

Hourly consultancy suits defined decisions and short interventions, project pricing suits work with a clear boundary, and retained consultancy suits businesses that need recurring strategic input.

Pricing model Best suited to Main advantage Watch for
Single session A specific SEO problem, review or decision Low commitment and direct access to expertise Limited continuity
Multiple sessions Work requiring several strategic checkpoints Advice can respond to implementation and new evidence Total time and session structure should be clear
Fixed project A defined piece of consultancy with a clear output Scope and fee can be agreed before work begins Additional requirements may fall outside the original scope
Retained consultancy Ongoing strategy, prioritisation and review Continuity and recurring access to the consultant Responsibilities included in the retainer need to be explicit

When Should You Pay for a Single SEO Consultancy Session?

A single session makes sense where the problem can be defined before the consultation and the primary requirement is experienced input rather than ongoing delivery.

Examples include reviewing an SEO proposal, challenging an existing strategy, diagnosing a specific ranking problem or helping a team choose between competing priorities.

When Are Multiple Consultancy Sessions Better?

Multiple sessions make sense where the work needs to be implemented, reviewed and adjusted rather than resolved in one conversation.

Separate sessions create checkpoints where new evidence can be assessed before the next decision is made.

When Does Project-Based SEO Consultancy Make Sense?

Project pricing works where the consultancy has a sufficiently clear boundary and output to price the work as a defined engagement.

I do not publish a universal project price because the amount of work depends on the scope being assessed.

When Is Retained SEO Consultancy the Better Model?

Retained consultancy is appropriate where SEO decisions recur throughout the year and the business wants consistent senior input rather than isolated sessions.

This model can work particularly well where an internal team handles implementation but needs ongoing SEO direction, prioritisation and review.

What Happens When Your SEO Budget Does Not Match the Scope?

An SEO budget has to match the amount of expertise and implementation required to solve the problem. Reducing the budget does not automatically reduce the amount of work a competitive objective requires.

Where the available budget cannot support the full scope, narrowing the scope and prioritising the work with the highest expected commercial impact is more useful than spreading the budget across an unrealistic list of deliverables.

This is one situation where consultancy can be commercially efficient. A business may not need to outsource an entire SEO campaign; it may need experienced input to identify the important problems, decide what not to do and give its existing team a clearer order of execution.

Where a business needs substantial implementation but has neither the internal resources nor the budget to obtain that implementation externally, consultancy alone does not solve the underlying resource constraint.

How Can You Work With Me on SEO Consultancy?

I’m Adam Collins, an independent SEO consultant working directly with businesses that need experienced input on their organic search strategy.

  • One 60-minute SEO consultancy session: £300 + VAT
  • Four 45-minute SEO consultancy sessions: £1,000 + VAT
  • Retained SEO consultancy: scoped individually

My consultancy is a strong fit where you already have people capable of implementing SEO work but need senior direction, where an important SEO decision needs independent scrutiny, or where you want experienced input without outsourcing the entire SEO programme.

Not sure which paid consultancy option you need?

The initial conversation is for establishing fit and deciding whether a £300 one-hour session, several strategic checkpoints or retained consultancy is the right next step.

Frequently Asked Questions About SEO Consultant Pricing

Do SEO Consultants Charge VAT?

VAT treatment depends on the provider. Some consultants state that VAT is added to their advertised rate, while others do not display VAT treatment alongside the price.

My SEO consultancy prices are quoted excluding VAT.

Can I Hire an SEO Consultant for Just One Hour?

Yes. Adam Collins offers a 60-minute SEO consultancy session for £300 + VAT. It is intended for a defined problem, review or decision where ongoing consultancy is not required.

Do SEO Consultants Charge Hourly or Monthly?

SEO consultants can charge by the hour, by project or through an ongoing retainer. The appropriate model depends on whether you need help with a specific decision, a defined piece of consultancy or recurring strategic input.

Is Implementation Included in an SEO Consultant’s Fee?

SEO consultancy and SEO implementation are separate responsibilities unless the agreed scope explicitly combines them.

My consultancy fee covers strategic input, analysis, prioritisation and review. Additional development, content production or other execution is costed separately where required.

Are SEO Consultancy Retainers Cheaper Than Hourly Consulting?

Not automatically. A retainer should not be assumed to be a discounted bundle of consultancy hours.

Retained consultancy can include recurring analysis, preparation, review and ongoing involvement that differs from buying isolated hourly sessions. Compare the scope and responsibility included in the engagement rather than only the apparent hourly equivalent.

Pricing research methodology: Public UK SEO consultancy prices were checked in August 2026. Provider-published prices were kept separate from third-party estimates. The observed £100–£250 range includes only offers where an hourly consultancy rate could be identified. Day rates, monthly packages and unclear-duration services were not converted into hourly equivalents. Public prices can change after the review date.
